Sustainability Manager


Job description

  • The management and coordination of the environmental, health and safety, social, community liaison and stakeholder engagement functions on site;
  • The supervision of staff for effective delivery of action plans and targets
  • The implementation and management of the Environmental and Social Management system
  • The creation of a dynamic reporting regime with work plans, progress reports, operational checks and other records for all areas which are compliant with national regulations and all relevant standards
  • Communicate regularly with the relevant departments to review their performance and ensure the documentation and practices, necessary to comply with relevant standards, are implemented in accordance with work plans and time bound targets.
  • To supervise the regular internal auditing as well as inspection of firefighting, safety and emergency response equipment and constantly updating and improving these arrangements where appropriate
  • That necessary assessments are undertaken meeting international standards and related action plans are implemented
  • To provide training, capacity building socialisation, guidance, SoPs and work instructions that takes cultural change programs into consideration across the operation
  • To investigate accidents and near misses and making corrective action recommendations;
  • Follow up to ensure that corrective actions are implemented where necessary and ensure that any certification requirements are complied with
  • To supervise the stakeholder engagement  and develop and manage social & environmental projects with external stakeholders
  • Investigate the root cause HSE complaints and grievances put forward by staff members, customers, clients, communities and contractors.
  • To provide advice and guidance on environmental, biodiversity, and health and safety matters to management and other stakeholders. Interpret S&E information across operations and keep up to date with international best practices
  • Represent the company at technical meetings and regional conferences

Line Management and Reporting

The Sustainability Manager will work under the overall supervision of the Company General Manager and the Corporate Head of Sustainability

Profile

  • MSc in Sustainability Management, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Engineering, Agriculture or other relevant subject discipline
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel) and good knowledge of spread sheet and creating databases
  • French and/or English, being bilingual is an advantage

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in environment related work, preferably in tropical agri-business
  • Previous experience of assessing and managing E&S aspects of the agribusiness sector or practical experience of implementing certification schemes such as RSPO or ISO is desirable
  • Experience in a similar environment is an advantage
