Exactly 1 year ago, shipping line Safmarine and Socfinco together with the Liberia Agricultural Company (LAC) started to cooperate on an educational project at LAC in Liberia and money was raised to build an additional 5 classroom school at Nain Camp. LAC’s student numbers are rising and in order to maintain the high quality education, additional school buildings are needed. Construction of the new elementary school started in April 2011 and was finished by the end of the year.
LAC has always been convinced of the need to create opportunities for education and has traditionally strongly invested in its school system. The entire LAC school system provides free quality education for more than 4 500 students from pre-grade to high school level. LAC believes education is the key and that investment in education has a positive impact on the entire community by generating future employment opportunities.
On Saturday February the 4th 2012, the official school opening took place, in the presence of LAC, Socfinco, Safmarine representatives, government officials, parents and of course the children from the LAC school system. Speeches were given, smiling students were performing songs and dances and the official ribbon cutting ceremony took place. It was truly a joyous occasion and the community certainly made great efforts to make this day a wonderful success! The Nain Camp School is now ready to welcome the happy students and its teachers and the official ceremony was only the beginning of a great future! Let the pictures attached speak for it…
