Okomu HSE awareness week

As part of activities marking the 2019 HSE Awareness week, members of the HSE committee visited staff of various departments to educate them on some safety prevention and management procedures.

Areas the team concentrated on include, Preventing Slip, Trip and Fall; Fire and Office Safety and Knife safety and Hand-washing.

The Managing Director Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc Dr Graham Hefer says the safety of everyone begins with them.

Dr Hefer made this known during the 2019 HSE awareness week tagged, My HSE Culture; be aware, be safe.

Dr Hefer said the company takes the safety of its staff and visitors seriously hence the introduction of various policies adding that the company has also invested in creating a safe work environment for all workers in addition to the Personal Protective Equipment, PPE provided for workers and also the regular training and retraining of its workforce.

In a lecture, state controller Federal Ministry of Employment, Labour and Productivity, Mrs. Florence Owie while emphasizing on the need for companies to place priority on safety of it workers said the ministry has resolved that companies operating in the country comply to the specified safety rules and regulations.

As a way of imbibing the culture of safety in the environment on the younger generation, Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc during its 2019 HSE Awareness week engaged pupils from both public and private schools in the weeklong event.

The pupils drawn from Okomu Staff School and Okomu Government School engaged in debate supporting and opposing the motion of whether Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) culture in the home and workplace should be sustained.

At the end of the debate, it was unanimously agreed by the pupils that safety both at home and workplace is very important and as such HSE culture in the society is one that should be sustained and encouraged by all.
